Take the first step into your future – and possibly your very first step into the world of work. Nationwide, over 1,000 Barclays branches, contact centres and operation centres – and many other business areas – are waiting to welcome you. All we look for is potential. We’ve become experts at identifying it, and we know how to help it grow.

There are two ways in. If we feel you’re ready, you can get started on your Foundation Apprenticeship right away. But if you’re not quite prepared, you can begin with our Traineeship, where you’ll develop the skills and knowledge you need to set off with confidence.

 

 

Traineeships

A Traineeship is your way onto a Barclays Foundation Apprenticeship if you don’t quite have the education, qualifications, training or experience to step straight into the world of work. Our Traineeship will prepare you for the working world – and a career at Barclays. We’ll cover the essentials with you – things like English and Maths skills, how to make a good impression, and how to shine in an interview. There’ll be work experience too, so you’ll be able to put everything you’ve learnt into practice. At the end of your Traineeship, assuming you were assigned to Barclays, we’ll invite you to begin a Foundation Apprenticeship with us – either immediately, or as soon as a place opens up.

What can you expect?

You’ll begin with a period of training run by one of our external partners. This will last for five weeks - unless you’re over 24, in which case it will run for a fortnight. Either way, it will be interesting, informal, fun, and specifically created to build up your skills and prepare you for work. We’ll show you how to make a great first impression and give your best in job interviews. If you need to develop your English or Maths skills, we’ll support you with those too.

Then it’s on to work experience, which will almost certainly be with Barclays. You’ll go on a placement that will last up to two weeks, depending on the amount of experience you have. During this placement you’ll watch and learn from others and get involved yourself. You’ll gain valuable exposure to the workplace, build your confidence, meet some great new people, and become more confident. Plus you’ll benefit from an interview with us at the end.

Our Traineeship is designed to create opportunity. So if it looks like we may not be right for you, we’ll help you find a work experience placement somewhere that better suits your talents.

What do we look for?

You need to be over 16 and either be currently unemployed or have little to no work experience. Most importantly, you need to be keen to improve your skills, learn new ones, and find work. In other words, we’re looking for a spark of potential in you – and don’t worry, we’re good at spotting it, even if you’re not sure it’s there.

What can your future look like?

Complete your training, work experience and interview, and you’ll find plenty of opportunities ahead. Assuming you were assigned to Barclays, we’ll invite you to begin a Foundation Apprenticeship with us – either immediately, or as soon as a place opens up.

Your path ahead will be clear. When you complete the Foundation Apprenticeship, you’ll be able to move into a full time role, or take your learning to the next level on our Progression or Higher Apprenticeships.

Liverpool
9th July - 30th July 2018

Training Programme with Barclays, Liverpool (1)

We are working in partnership with Barclays delivering a unique three-week training programme and 1 week works experience with Barclays.  

This valuable training programme is a Sector-Based Work Academy and includes:

  • Three weeks' classroom training focused around Customer Service and an overview of how Barclays operate as a business
  • One week’s work experience placement with Barclays where you will get to understand how Barclays operate as a business and meet some of the teams
  • Guaranteed job interview with Barclays for their Apprenticeship programme

After completing your one week’s work experience with Barclays you will be interviewed, if successful at your interview, you will then progress on to their eighteen-month Apprenticeship programme.

Apprentice Community Banker Moment

The purpose of the Moment Banker Telephony role is to deliver effective, efficient and compliant telephone-based customer service, working collaboratively with colleagues to maximise customer satisfaction and strengthen the Barclays brand in the community.

Key accountabilities are to:

  • Show commitment to continuously develop your knowledge and skills using the resources available to you. Complete all mandatory training for your role to ensure you are fully complaint at all times.
  • Maximise your potential through supportive coaching sessions, 1:1’s and observations to develop your performance within the role.
  • Act with honesty and Integrity, work with colleagues to create a respectful and motivating environment which attracts and inspires colleagues to share our purpose and values.
  • Actively participate in our citizenship activities that help contribute to the Community in which you work in.
  • Working with your team, contribute to team meetings and huddles to share new ideas to help improve how we work as a team and with our customers.
  • Manage your time effectively to meet customer demand and your own objectives.
  • Accurately complete administration activities, such as customer records and customer contact information.
  • Put yourself in the customer’s shoes and understand how our products and services can help the customers and their needs.
  • Delight the customer by offering a professional, consistent and caring level of customer service
  • Show knowledge and understanding of our digital products; proactively educate your customer to have confidence in using alternative channels of their choice
  • Strive to exceed customers’ expectations at the customer’s first point of contact
  • Deliver exceptional customer service for everyday queries and complaints by taking responsibility and using your resources to proactively resolve the customer’s issues efficiently.

Throughout your Apprenticeship and upon completion of your Apprenticeship programme, your development and progression will be discussed with your line manager.

  • Looking for employment

Foundation Apprenticeships

Unlike Traineeships, our Foundation Apprenticeships are designed for those who are ready to go straight into work. They are a foundation, on which you can start to build a rewarding and lasting career. Foundation Apprenticeships combine on-the-job training with classroom learning and result in a programme which is truly work-focused. You’ll have a job with good career progression, gain work experience and a qualification, and earn a competitive salary. Your age, background, experience or education won’t hold you back. And our support will help you explore our business and take advantage of all the many opportunities ahead.

What can you expect?

There’ll be between 12 and 24 months of focused on-the-job development, during which you’ll take on a fulfilling role and study towards an A-level equivalent qualification. You’ll learn alongside the people you’ll be working with day-to-day – getting the same world-class training as they do. You’ll also benefit from one-to-one training and tuition, and have dedicated mentors (both inside and outside of Barclays) to turn to for advice and guidance.

We’ll support you with your studies. Our training is going digital (just like our customers), so we’ve developed a new e-learning platform you can access on the go, for help in your studies. We’ll also sign you up for the Digital Driving Licence - an innovative virtual way to learn new skills to then inspire our customers and colleagues. 

What do we look for?

The programme is open to anyone over 16 who holds qualifications lower than two A-Levels (or equivalent) and who hasn’t completed any Apprenticeships above foundation level. When we say anyone, we mean it. Your background, education and experience really don’t matter: if you have a can-do attitude, energy, initiative and the potential to do brilliantly, we’d love to meet you.

What can your future look like?

Successfully complete the programme, and you’ll have three main options. You could move into a full-time role and continue to develop there. Alternatively, if you’ve found an area that particularly interests you, you can focus on that with a Progression Apprenticeship. Or you can choose to stay on a more general pathway and go to the next level and beyond with a Higher Apprenticeship. It all depends on what you want to do, and where you want to go.
